Minutes

2.15.0 Release Update
Peter

  • Last three encryption patches delayed due to vacations but will land soon and then we can declare 2.15 feature frozen

James S

  • IPv6 10 patches landed; 20 left to land; this is foundational work for full delivery in a future release

Upstream Lustre Client
James S

  • Two more patches need to land to allow utilities to be built for in-kernel client (44664 and 43873) which will allow more testing to take place

Other Business
Peter

  • Looking at survey data relating to LTS branch I know believe that we should recommend 2.15 as the next LTS branch; this will still allow good runway for those who wish to stay on 2.12.x and allow time for people to test ahead of the release; thoughts?

Dustin

  • ORNL would be strongly in favour of this

Cory

  • HPE would prefer to wait for 2.16 because of the features projected to be in that release

Peter

  • Those are attractive features but, in addition to the driver from hardware requiring newer kernels, it could be good to allow foundational features more time to settle before being present in an LTS branch; let's suggest this as a recommendation at LAD, see what the reaction is and then announce more broadly at SC21 if no serious concerns that we have not considered are raised.

Next meeting will be on 2021-09-02 at 11:00am Pacific
